Females generally give birth to one infant at a time. Only three sets of twins are known to have been born in Gombe since Jane Goodall's research began. There is an interval of five years between births. If an infant dies, the mother becomes pregnant again within a couple of months. Pregnancy is an interval of eight lunar months.
