Several companies in Hong Kong are selling the same 100% fake eggs.

 Watch for these features

  • Eggshells are made of resin rather than natural calcium carbonate (identified with polarizing light microscope);
  • Eggshells have no porous structures;
  • Eggshell thickness varies too much;
  • No variation in color of eggshell cross-section versus surface (surface should be darker);
  • Matrix under broken eggshell is resin rather than natural sandstone
  • Cast resin egg is set into in a piece of natural matrix. The joining seam is obvious and sometimes has fragments of paper towel found in the seam under the egg.
